Johanna Murphy, Ph.D.
Dr. Johanna Murphy is a licensed psychologist with over fifteen years of clinical experience and extensive training in psychodynamic psychotherapy. She has a private practice in San Francisco and Oakland, where she works with both individuals and couples. Dr. Murphy completed a Master’s degree in Developmental Psychology and her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. She has been researching women’s health throughout her training; her own doctoral research focused on women and depression.
Dr. Murphy’s pre-doctoral training at Stanford University included a mind-body approach to psychotherapy, which complemented her own studies of yoga and has continued to influence her work to this day. Post-doctoral training at the California College of Arts also strengthened a personal interest in the creative, expansive aspects of the therapeutic process. Dr. Murphy has completed the level 1 iRest training and can offer this and other self care techniques when alternative treatments are desired.
All of Dr. Murphy’s training and clinical experience inform her work, enabling her to utilize an integrative approach that is adapted to each person’s individual needs. She believes in the power of the therapeutic process to create the kind of life one envisions. When provided with adequate space, time, and guidance, all people have the capacity to heal themselves.
